Sliabh Beagh

Sliabh Beagh ASC – based in Monaghan Town, with approximately 120 members is a club that has deep roots locally & the surrounding Monaghan County as an integral part of the community as well as having much support from the border counties of Tyrone, Armagh, Fermanagh & Cavan. With a club motto of “more than just a swimming club”, Sliabh Beagh ASC aims to provide all members with a club environment that strives to motivate & guide so that each team member can excel & grow individually & collectively, as part of their own personal development journeys as young people.

Our members start from age 6 and begin their swimming journey in our Development squad which currently has over 50 members. Our junior and senior Aqua squads have in the region of 20 members and these swimmers range in age from 9 to 13. Intermediate and senior clubs have almost 30 swimmers from age 12 up to 18. Our squads are led by our head coach Pearse McGuigan with support and training provided from our team of coaches. Our Masters also continue to train and compete, many of whom are parents of our younger swimmers or were previous competitive swimmers themselves. We at Sliabh Beagh pride ourselves on being a close knit swimming community, a place where we can have fun, be competitive and form close long lasting friendships.

The PTL is an exciting league for us – its our first competition of the season and the only whole team event. Presenting such a great opportunity for the whole team to swim and compete together nurtures participation at all levels and is an important stepping stone to competing at higher levels. It is an inspiration for our younger swimmers, some of who may not get an opportunity to see our senior swimmers in action, let alone compete alongside them. We look forward with anticipation to the league and the season ahead.
